SUCCESS STORIES
College Applicant NL
Student NL:
Johns Hopkins University
High school: Canadian Public School IB system
Extracurricular: Toronto Youth Symphony Orchestra ,Canadian Youth Financial Literacy Forum;
Awards and Competition: Canadian Computing Contest
Student Case: Student NL came to us without knowing what they like, which subjects they are good at, or what schools they would like to try. Our team firstly spent time with them to go over possible majors in some top schools, mainly entailing the career prospects, the expected curriculum, and potential extracurricular activities that we would go for under different majors. In this process, we introduced them with many industrial practitioners, academic faculty members, and current students across different majors in the coaching call sessions. The IVM team helped the student to locate some apprenticeship opportunities so that they could have first hand experiences before making a decision.
Academically, besides working on the standardized testing prep, the IVM team also provided academic support to their IB curriculum, answering their questions while working towards the IB. Student NL developed interests in robotic designs so we reached out to our robotic faculty who helped NL with the presentable robotic project in the end.
With the presentable academic success, diversified extracurricular projects, and dedicated career plans, NL got into Johns Hopkins University in the early decision round.
Graduate School Applicant TY w/ Low GPA
Student TY:
Columbia University, Fu Foundation School of Engineering
Undergraduate College: Greater Asia Region Science Institute (World Ranking: 200-250)
Undergraduate Major: Financial Technology
Student case: TY has a GPA below 3.0 out 4.0 by the time they reached out to us. TY is very intelligent, however, they are not very focused. That’s why their academic performance is not strong enough to back up their wild ideas. We firstly walked through with TY to understand their academic strength better. We then guided them to some research projects where they can make the most use of his academic edges. TY’s research project worked out in the end as their supervisors spoke highly of their achievements.
Based on TY’s research breakthrough, our mentor worked closely with them to improve their academic performance gradually. We also took the approach of taking some online credited courses to boost up their academic portfolios.
The IMP team also helped TY to better position in the internship searching process with solid career mentoring projects. TY has done two financial technology related internship projects in Hong Kong and Singapore prior to the graduate school application season. TY worked very hard under our mentors’ guidance, and in the end they got the offer from Fu Foundation School of Engineering at Columbia University.
